June 12, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 amFree
Join us for our bi-weekly Empowered #PatientChat on twitter. Special guest AnnMarie Ciccarella will join us to discuss how patients can get involved in research and clinical trials.
A member of the Intake.Me Patient Advisory Board, AnneMarie Ciccarella (@chemobrainfog) was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2006 and later embarked on a path of patient advocacy. AnneMarie sits on a number of scientific advisory boards, has served as a patient advocate on research grant applications and has participated in peer review process to evaluate grant applications for funding recommendation. She is the author of the blog, Chemobrain: In The Fog.
We’ll chat about clinical trials vs. standard of care, trial protections, when to consider trials and where to find trials. We’ll also discuss other ways that patients can get involved in research beyond participating in a treatment trial.
T1: What are some of the basics of clinical trials that empowered patients should be aware of?
T2: When and why should patients consider getting involved in clinical trials? Benefits? Drawbacks?
T3: What types of trials and research studies are there beyond treatment/drug trials?
T4: Beyond their doctors, where can patients find clinical trial information? Tips for bringing up with doctors?
T5: Other than enrolling in research, what other ways can empowered patients get involved with research?
