You’re Invited! Join the Empowered #patientchat community as we discuss Citizen Science: Hacking Healthcare with John Novack of Inspire.
Citizen science (also known as crowd science, crowd-sourced science, civic science, or networked science) is scientific research conducted, in whole or in part, by amateur or nonprofessional scientists. Citizen science is sometimes described as “public participation in scientific research”, participatory monitoring and participatory action research. [Wikipedia]
For this chat, we’ll take a look at how citizen science is coming into play in today’s healthcare environment. Guiding our discussion will be the following Topic (T) Questions:
T1: What is “citizen science”? Where can one learn more about it?
T2: How is citizen science coming into play in healthcare? What are the trends?
T3: What are some examples of citizen science in healthcare? What kinds of things are you doing to hack your own healthcare?
T4a: How can patients participate in their own citizen science? Support others’ projects?
T4b: After gathering data, what are some tips for figuring out how to analyze and then apply the information?
T5: What are some of the barriers to citizen science? How open to this concept is the medical community?
T6: What are some tips for talking to your medical team about your interest in citizen science and sharing projects w/ them?
